disable the Windows 10 upgrade

disable the task using the Task Scheduler

This option is useful if you don't want to remove the update to avoid possible conflicts later.

  1. Using your keyboard, hold down the Windows key then press the letter R.
  2. In the Run window, type in taskschd.msc then hit the OK button.
  3. In the left-hand window pane, double-click Task Scheduler Library.
  4. Double-click Microsoft, then Windows, then Setup, and finally click on gwx.
  5. In the right-hand window pane, right-click on each of the two tasks and select Disable.

On the next reboot or log in, the icon will no longer be present at the bottom-right corner of the screen.

uninstall the Windows update repsonsible

This will remove the Windows update that installed the Windows 10 upgrade invitation. Uninstalling may or may not cause issues later.

  1. Using your keyboard, hold down the Windows key then press the letter R.
  2. In the Run window, type in cmd then hit the OK button.
  3. Type in WUSA /UNINSTALL /KB:3035583 then hit the Enter key.
