identify unknown hardware

1. Bring up the Device Manager window. Insert devmgmt.msc into the Run... dialogue.
2. Right-click on the hardware in question. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Details tab
4. Select Device Instance Id from the drop-down menu.
5. You'll see something like PCI\VEN_15AD&DEV_0405&SUBSYS_040515AD&REV_00\3&61AAA01&0&78. Make note of the characters following VEN_ and DEV_. They refer to the VENDOR and DEVICE.
