find a .torrent

Finding a .torrent of what you want is easy. You can either use the search bar in the top-right corner of µTorrent or open a Web browser to a torrent search engine yourself. The µTorrent search tool will open your default Web browser to the chosen search engine. You can choose a search engine in µTorrent by clicking on the magnifying glass.

You can add torrent search engines into the listing that appears next to the magnifying glass.

1. In µtorrent click on the Options menu then select Preferences.
2. Click on the + to the left of Advanced on the left side.
3. You'll see two sub-menus appears labeled UI Extras and Disk Cache. Click on UI Extras.
4. The text-box at the bottom will be labeled Search Engines [Format: name|URL]. Type in the name of the search engine followed by a vertical bar then the URL of the search engine.

After finding a .torrent of what you want to download you can either save the .torrent to your computer or have µTorrent handle it for you. I'm using Firefox and I can choose Open With: µTorrent (default). This will quickly download the .torrent file and pass it over to µTorrent. The Add New Torrent window will appear in µTorrent.

You can skip to step five if you're choosing the Open With fuction of your Web browser.

1. Download a .torrent file.
2. Open µTorrent.
3. From the File menu select Add Torrent.
4. Browse for the location you downloaded the .torrent file to.
5. The Add New Torrent window will appear. Choose where to save the .torrent contents to. The top area shows Save To, including the file name or folder structure. If you want to save to a different location click the ... button to browse for a different location.
6. Select what to download. The lower section shows the content of the .torrent. Download it all or select what you like.
7. Click the OK button.
