Cobian Backup

How to wake up a hibernating Windows 7 computer and run a backup

  1. Start the Task Scheduler. You can locate it by typing task scheduler in the search bat above the Windows logo/START button.
  2. Click on Task Scheduler Library on the left.
  3. Choose Create Task.
  4. In the General tab give the task a name and set the security options (if you have a logon password).
  5. In the Trigger tab create a new trigger and set the time for when you'd like to wake up the computer to run a backup.
  6. Under the Action tab set it to "Display a message". Fill in whatever you'd like the message to say.
  7. Under Conditions make sure to place a check to wake the computer.
  8. Finish with the Task Scheduler and start Cobian.
  9. In Cobian make sure you set the backup several minutes later than the time you set in the Task Scheduler's Trigger tab.

If the computer does not wake up during the specified time, check the power settings.

  1. Go into the Control Panel
  2. Switch to small or large icon view
  3. Open Power Options
  4. Click on Change Plan Settings across from whatever plan you're currently using
  5. Click on Change Advanced Power Settings
  6. Look down the list and press the + next to Sleep
  7. Press the + next to Allow Wake Timers
  8. Click on Plugged In and change the setting to Enable
