Cleaner button
- Click the Analyze button to find stuff to clean up.
- Click Run Cleaner button to clean up the stuff that was found.
- A pop-up will appear that reads "This process will permanently delete files from your system". Click OK to continue with the removal process.
Issues button
This will check the registry for any problems
- Click Scan for issues
- Click Fix selected issues
- A pop-up will appear reading "Do you want to back up changes to the registry?". Answer Yes to save before any changes occur.
- Chose somewhere to save the backup to (e.g. your "My Documents" folder) and press Save.
- A pop-up will appear for the first issue with options of Fix issue, Fix all selected issues and Close. Select Fix all selected issues to fix up everything found during the scan.
- Another pop-up window will appear asking "Are you sure you want to fix all selected issues?". Press OK to continue with the removal procedure.
- When done press the Close button.
Options
Settings
From here you can change the type of file deletion. Normally it is set for "Normal file deletion". To make sure the data really disappears you can select "Secure file deletion". The number of passes in parentheses indicates the number of times random data will be written over the data to be deleted. Options include:
- A simple single pass
- The Department of Defense 3 pass method
- The National Security Agency's 7 pass method
- The Gutmann method (Peter Gutmann, Colin Plumb) at 35 passes.

- Choose which options you want in the Cleaner section.
- Click on the Options selection on the left.
- Click on Advanced.
- Place a check mark next to Save all settings to INI file.
- Make a copy of the desktop link to the CCleaner program. Right-click on CCleaner and select Copy.
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
- Right-click on the Startup folder and select Paste.
- Right-click on the newly created CCleaner link and select Properties.
- Add /AUTO onto the end of the Target.

What makes Vista annoying is the UAC asking for permission. By making use of the task scheduler you can bypass the UAC.
- Click on the Windows Vista "START" button.
- In the search bar type in task scheduler and hit the Enter key.
- Click on Create Task on the right side.

- Give a name to the task in the Name field. Fill in the Description box if you like.
- Place a check next to Run with highest privledges.

- Click on the Actions tab then press the New button.
- Click the Browse button and work you way into \Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.
- In the Add arguments field type in /AUTO
- Click on the OK button.

- Click on the Triggers tab.
- Click the New button.
- From the Begin this task pull-down menu select At log on.
- Press OK.

- Press OK again to finish.
